My elbow

Ik ben met mijn elleboog, uit DIT bericht, bij de huisarts geweest en het blijkt om een steriele slijmbeursontsteking te gaan. Dat is een ontsteking zonder infectie.

I visit my doctor for my elbow, from THIS post, and it turns out to be a sterile bursitis. That is inflammation without infection.

 Ik had keuze uit 2 opties: 

- Of hij prikte hem aan zodat het vocht eruit kon, maar de kans is groot dat hij dan alsnog ontstoken raakt omdat er lucht bij komt en het risico is groot dat het sneller terug komt.

- Of ik liet hem vakkundig in zwachtelen en dan is het hopenlijk met een aantal weken over.

I had 2 options:

- Or he poked it with a syringe, so that the moisture could flow away, but chances are the elbow then becomes inflamed because air is added and there is a high risk that it will come back faster.

- Or a professional could put on a high pressure bandage on the elbow and then its hopefully over within a few weeks.

Vanwege de fibromyalgie heb ik gekozen voor de laatste optie en gelukkig hoef ik niet naar een fysiotherapeut om de zwachtel aan te laten brengen, omdat mijn dochter ook bevoegd is om deze aan te brengen.

Because of the fibromyalgia I have chosen for the last option and luckily I don't have to go to a physiotherapist for this, because my daughter is qualified to put on such a bandage.

Zo'n zwachtel wordt aangebracht van hand tot oksel en je elleboog staat in een hoek van 30 graden, dus van borduren of quilten zal de komende tijd niet veel komen denk ik :-) 

Such a bandage is put on from hand to axilla and your elbow is at an angle of 30 degrees, so I think I can't do much stitching or quilting the coming weeks :-)

Ik ben al aan het denken waar ik jullie dan de komende tijd mee kan gaan vervelen .... gelukkig kan ik wel foto's maken, dus er zijn genoeg mogelijkheden.

 I'm already thinking about what I can post for the coming weeks .... luckily I can take pictures, so there are plenty of possibilities.

 

Rainy monday

Op deze grijze regenachtige maandag een paar foto's van de bloemvruchten van de paardenbloem. Hoe zoiets kleins, zo mooi kan zijn ...

That was fast ...

Dit patroon had echt vleugeltjes, want afgelopen maandag werd het in Australie gepost en vandaag lag het hier al op de deurmat, als dat niet snel is dan weet ik het ook niet meer. De Sweet William van Susan Smith, gemaakt naar een quilt uit Pennsylvania uit circa 1860. Deze ga ik niet helemaal volgens het patroon maken, maar ik ga er een eigen draai aan geven :-)

This pattern had definite wings, because it was posted last monday in Australia and today it arrived in the Netherlands, so that was realy fast. The Sweet William van Susan Smith, made from a quilt from Pennsylvania from circa 1860. I'm going to make this quilt not totally as the pattern says, but I'm going to adapt it :-)

Vandaag werd er al op op tijd gezongen door Bowy en mij voor Michiel, die weer een jaartje ouder is geworden. Gefeliciteerd schat !

Today Bowy and I sang a birthday song for Michiel, who has his birthday today. Happy birthday my Love !

Ik ben nog steeds bezig met het doorquilten van de sterren, maar vlug gaat het niet want ik krijg steeds meer last van mijn elleboog. Nadat ik afgelopen jaar hersteld was van de tennis elleboog, kreeg ik begin van het jaar een soort vochtknobbel op mijn elleboog. Ik nog denken ... zal wel een reactie op die tennis elleboog zijn, maar inmiddels is die behoorlijk opgezwelt, dus dinsdagmiddag maar even naar de huisarts. Ik weet ook niet of het een elleboog bursitis is, want pijn doet hij helemaal niet. Misschien kan hij het vocht eruit halen met een spuit (ieks !). Hier een foto van mijn elleboog ... niet schrikken !

I'm still busy with quilting the stars but it isn't going fast because I have trouble with my elbow. Last year when my tennis elbow was cured, I got beginning this year trouble again, my elbow is swollen. I thought maybe a reaction on my tennis elbow, but now I think it more of a olecranon bursitis, although it doesn't hurt.  I have a doctors appointment tuesday, maybe he can with a syringe take out the fluid (ieks !). Here a picture of my elbow .... don't scare :-)

Quilting the stars

De laatste paar dagen ben ik bezig geweest met het doorquilten van de sterren. Ik quilt ze simpel door, 1/4 inch vanaf de naad. Hoe ik de driehoekjes ga doorquilten weet ik nog niet. Suggesties ?

The last few days I have been busy with quilting the stars. I do it simple, just 1/4 inch from the seam. I don't know yet how I do the triangles. Any suggestions ?

Een dag of 10-12 geleden, toen het zonnetje zo mooi scheen, hebben we plantjes gehaald om de bakken te vullen.

A day or 10-12 ago, when the sun was shining, we bought plants to fill our pots.

Dit keer alles in het rood en wit en een klein beetje paars van de lavendel. Ook werden de oude emmers weer gevuld, nu met een witte margriet en een rode abutilon met witte lobelia's in de groente emmer.

This time I choose the plants in red and white with a bit of purple from the lavender. My old buckets where filled with a white leucanthemum and a red abutilon with white lobelia's in the vegetable bucket.

De potten op de tuintafel vulde ik  met een witte aronskelk, lavendel, rode geraniums en witte lobelia's.

The pots on my garden table I filled with a white zantedeschia aethiopica (also know as calla lily), lavender, red geraniums and white lobelia's.

In de overige (zinken) bakken kwamen hoofdzakelijk rode geraniums met witte lobelia's te staan.

In the rest of my (zinc) pots I put red geraniums with white lobelia's.

Elk jaar kies ik voor weer andere planten die in de bakken mogen, maar de geranium is er wel elk jaar bij.

Each year I choose different plants for in my pots, except for the geranium, that I buy each year.

Met die paar dagen zon die we hadden, kwam de tuin ineens tot leven en in no time stonden de planten te bloeien, zo ook rond de vijver.

With those couple of sunny days last week, the garden came to life and in no time the plants where blooming, also around the pond.

En na jaren bloeide nu ook de slangenwortel (Calla palustris) in de vijver.

And after many years finally the pond calla was blooming.

Ook kunnen we weer genieten van de mooie bloemen en geuren van de seringboom.

We also can again enjoy the beautiful flowers and sence of the syringa (lilac).

Nu hebben we alweer enkele dagen regen, ik hoor vele al mopperen :-) Maar de plantjes zijn er wel blij mee en ze groeien als kool. De lavendel laat al haar eerste bloempjes zien.

Now we have for days rain, I hear many people grumble :-) But the plants like it and they grow very good. The lavender is showing her first flowers.

Happy with my stars

Een voor een ben ik een UFO (een onafgemaakt project) uit de kast aan het trekken, zodat ze nu eens afkomen. Vorige week haalde ik de sterren tevoorschijn van de Chocolate and Blueberry Stars quilt. Er waren 15 van de 27 sterren gemaakt, dus nog 12 te gaan en dan nog 6 halve sterren. Na een paar dagen werken waren ze allemaal af en kon ik de driehoeken gaan snijden.

One by one I take a UFO out the closet, so I can finish it. Last week I took the stars for the Chocolate and Blueberry Stars quilt. I already made 15 of the 27 stars, so only 12 to go and 6 half stars. After a few days I made all of the stars, so I could cut all the triangles.

Al snel waren al de driehoeken gesneden en kon ik ze tussen de sterren gaan leggen om te zien hoe het zou gaan worden.

Soon I had cut all the triangles and I lay them between the stars so I could see how it was going to be.

Helemaal goedgekeurd en dus kon het patchen weer beginnen ... 54 driehoeken en 12 halve driehoeken te gaan. Resultaat na 2 dagen ...

All approved, so the patching could begin ... 54 triangles and 12 half triangles to go. Result after 2 days ...

Gisteren stonden alle driehoeken er tussen. Daarna kon ik beginnen met een  blauwe rand er omheen te maken, zodat de sterren nog mooier uitkomen. Ook deze werden met de hand eraan gezet. 

En vandaag ? Vandaag kan ik de top laten zien die nu helemaal af is. Straks gaat de tussenvulling en achterkant er tegen aan zodat het doorquilten kan beginnen.

Yesterday all the triangles were sewed. Now I could start with my blue borders, so the stars would be look beautiful. The borders I sewed also by hand.

And today ? Today I can show you the top of the quilt, its done. Later today I'm going to add the bating and back fabric and start quilting :-)

Dutch sampler motifs with a twist

Karin van Beardie Designs benaderde me enige tijd geleden met de vraag of ik enkele modellen wilde borduren voor haar nieuwe boek: Dutch sampler motifs with a twist. Omdat ik dit altijd leuk vind om te doen, zei ik ja en al snel kon ik aan de slag gaan.

De borduurwerken mocht ik naar geheel eigen idee afwerken en ik verwerkte ze daarna tot een ornament, een pinkeep, een speldenkussen en een tasje.

Karin of Beardie Designs ask me some time ago if I would stitch some models for her new book: Dutch samplers motifs with a twist. Because I always enjoy stitching models, I said yes and soon I was busy stitching them.

The pieces I could finish to my own ideas and I made an ornament, a pinkeep, a pincushion and a little bag.

Gisteren kreeg ik het boek van Karin toegestuurd en het ziet er geweldig uit ! In het boek staan 37 patronen verdeeld over 11 thema's. De "twist" is dat in de meeste patronen buiten kruissteek, er ook speciale steken in de patronen voorkomen, die heel duidelijk beschreven worden in het boek, zodat zelfs de beginnende borduurster ze kan maken.

Het boek zal op 9 juni gepresenteerd worden tijdens het Festa del Ricamo in Italie. Op de blog van Casa Cenina kun je er meer over lezen. Mijn boek heeft nog een "oude" voorkant, bij Casa Cenina kun je de "nieuwe" voorkant zien.

Yesterday I got the book from Karin and it looks beautiful ! Inside are 37 patterns divided over 11 themes. The "twist" is that besides cross stitch, in most of the patterns also special stitches are used, but all of them are very clear explained in the book so that even a beginner can make them.

The book will be presented on june 9 during the Festa del Ricamo in Italy. On the blog of Casa Cenina you can read more about it. My book still has the "old" cover, but on the site of Casa Cenina you can see the "new" cover.

Star and Plume Quilt

Cathy Miller, ook wel bekend als de zingende quiltster, heeft naast haar vele cd's, ook verschillende quilts op haar naam staan. Zelf heb ik 4 cd's van haar en ik luister er altijd graag naar, omdat elk lied een quilt thema heeft. Op You Tube vond ik dit filmpje waar ze een van haar liedjes zingt.

Cathy Miller, also know as The Singing Quilter, has besides her many cd's, also made many quilts. I have 4 cd's of her and I enjoy listen to them because every song has a quilt theme. On You Tube I found this film where she sings one of her songs.

Sommige liedjes worden door haar omgezet in een quilt, zo ook het liedje Star en Plume (te vinden op haar cd A Quilter's World). Jarenlang vroegen quiltsters of ze niet een patroon uit wilde brengen van deze scrappy sampler quilt en enige tijd geleden besloot ze dit te gaan doen in de vorm van een BOM. Hier is de tekst van het liedje Star and Plume en de quiltblokken die in de quilt zitten zijn onderstreept.

Some of her songs are translate to quilts, also the song Star and Plume (you can find this song on her cd A Quilter's World). Several years quilters ask her if she would be willing to make a pattern of this scrappy sampler quilt and some time ago she decided to do it in the form of a BOM. In dit bericht op haar BLOG (klik) kun je alles lezen over deze BOM. De quilt bestaat uit 48 blokken van 9 inch en elke maand stuurt ze 2 patronen per email op, zodat je na 2 jaar de quilt kompleet hebt. Bij elk blok zit een hele duidelijke uitleg (met foto's) over hoe dat betreffende blok te maken.

Eigenlijk wilde ik voorlopig geen nieuw project onder handen nemen, maar ik hou nu eenmaal van haar liedjes en ook nog eens van scrappy samplers, dus de keus om mee te doen was niet moeilijk. Bovendien zijn 2 blokken per maand makkelijk bij te houden. Ik ga hem maken met allemaal verschillende rode en wit/creme stofjes. Op 1 mei kregen we de eerste 2 patronen die ik meteen gemaakt hebt.

In this messages on her BLOG (click) you can read all about this BOM. The quilt contains 48 blocks of 9 inch and every month she send 2 patterns through email, so after 2 years the quilt is complete. By every pattern she explains (with pictures) how to make the block.

I didn't want to start a new project but I just love her songs and I love scrappy samplers, so the decision was made quick. Besides, 2 blocks a month is easy to make. I'm going to make it in all kind of red and white/creme fabrics. On may 1 we got the first 2 patterns which I already made.

"Wat hebben we het druk gehad de afgelopen dagen, nietwaar Carin?".

"Dat klopt Brumelda. Op donderdag kwamen Trees en Ans op bezoek, op vrijdag kwam Elly die super nieuwsgierig was naar het nieuwe boek van Di Ford en op zaterdag gingen we naar de Quiltsteek in Best om mijn wedstrijdquiltje op te halen dat de 1e prijs gewonnen had".

"Niet alleen dat quiltje ophalen hoor, want ik zag het wel toen je thuis kwam. Of waren die nieuwe stofjes allemaal aan je hand blijven plakken?".

"Brumelda je weet toch dat, als je een quiltwinkel binnen gaat, je altijd weer iets ziet dat je nog niet hebt. Bovendien moest ik nog wat rose en paarse stofjes hebben voor de Amish Circle Quilt en die andere stofjes ? ... die komen vast nog eens van pas".

"We had some busy days, didn't we Carin?".

"Thats correct Brumelda. On thursday came Trees and Ans to visit, on friday came Elly who was curious about the new book of Di Ford and on saterday we went to the Quiltsteek in Best to pick up my little quilt that I had entered in the contest and which won the first prize".

"Not only to pick up your quilt Carin, because I saw you when you got home and there where new fabrics".

"Well Brumelda, you do know that, when you enter a quiltshop, you always see fabric you don't have. Besides, I needed some pink and purple fabrics for the Amish Circle Quilt and those other fabrics? ... those will come in handy some day".

 "En op dinsdag hebben we bijna de hele dag tv gekeken, er was zoveel oranje te zien".

"Dat klopt Brumelda, want op die dag trad onze koningin Beatrix af en kregen we er een koning voor in de plaats. Wat hebben we die dag genoten nietwaar?".

"And then on tuesday we almost watch all day tv, because there was so much orange to see".

"Thats right Brumelda, because our Queen Beatrix stepped down and now we have a king in the Netherlands. There was so much to see and we enjoy it, didn't we?".

"Ja ik vond het een super dag Carin, want we hadden zelfs oranje tompoezen. Dat die zo snel op waren zullen we maar niet vertellen hihihi ... en zelfs Bowy vierde mee met zijn nieuwe oranje tennisbal".

"Yes it was a beautiful day Carin, because we even had some orange tompouce to eat (thats a common pastry in the Netherlands). We don't tell that we eat them in no time hihihi ... and even Bowy celebrate with us with his new orange tennis ball".

"En vandaag hebben we zelfs dubbel feest, want Michiel en jij zijn vandaag toch 8 jaar getrouwd Carin?".

"Dat heb je goed onthouden Brumelda en vandaag is ook dochter Lindy jarig. Ze wordt alweer 27 jaar. Waar blijft de tijd !".

"Ja ze is al een echte dame geworden. En dan roepen we nu allemaal keihard: GEFELICITEERD Lindy !".

"And today we have a double celebration, because Michiel and you are married 8 years today, isn't it Carin?".

"You remember that correct Burmelda and also daughter Lindy has her birthday today. She is turning 27 years. Time flies !".

"She is a real lady now. So we all say very hard: HAPPY BIRTHDAY Lindy !".

"We zouden bijna vergeten te zeggen dat we nog een SBS blokje hebben gemaakt Carin en dat was nog wel zo'n mooie met oranje roosjes".

"Neehoor Brumelda, dat was ik niet vergeten want Bowy stond te kwispelen om zijn oranje tennisbal terug te krijgen".

"We almost forgot to say that we also made a SBS block Carin and that was a beautiful one with the orange roses".

"I didn't forget that Brumelda, because Bowy was wagging his tail to get his orange tennis bal back".

I Spy Quilt finished

De "I Spy" quilt is klaar en kan naar de kleindochter van mijn nichtje die nu 3 maanden oud is. "I Spy" staat voor: Ik zie, ik zie wat jij niet ziet en kan voor uren spel plezier zorgen als ze wat groter is. 

Want welk kind vind het nu niet leuk om te zoeken naar de boot, het schaapje of de ballonnen. Ik heb de quilt lekker groot gemaakt, 130 cm x 130 cm, zodat ze er ook lekker onder kan liggen als ze het eens koud heeft of zich niet lekker voelt. 

Als tussenvulling heb ik Quilters Dream Cotton Request gebruikt, dus kindvriendelijk.

I finished the "I Spy" quilt and now it can to the granddaughter of my niece which is now 3 months old. The "I Spy" quilt is for hours of enterainment when she is a bit older.

I think every child finds it so much fun to look for the boat, the sheep or the balloons.  I have made the quilt in the size 51" x 51", so she can lie under it when she has it cold or she is not feeling well. 

As batting I used Quilters Dream Cotton Request, so child friendly.

Met 100 verschillende afbeeldingen ben je wel even bezig  om naar een bepaald plaatje te zoeken. Hier enkele close-up foto's van de vele stofjes die in de quilt zitten.

With 100 different images you can search for a while. Here some close-up pictures of the many fabrics that are in the quilt.

 Uiteraard krijgt elke quilt een naam dat op het label wordt geschreven en achterop de quilt vastgezet wordt. De kleindochter van mijn nichtje kreeg de mooie naam Lieve en omdat Lieve er op de foto zo lief uit zag, heb ik de quilt de naam "Lieve Lieve" gegeven :-)

Ofcourse every quilt gets a name that I write on a label that I sew on the back of the quilt. The granddaughter of my niece got the beautiful name Lieve, in English this means Dear. So when I saw a picture of Lieve and she was so sweet, I called my quilt "Lieve Lieve" :-)

De quilt zal vergezeld worden door een KIKA beer, omdat ik deze stichting graag steun. 

The quilt will be accompanied by a KIKA bear, KIKA is a Dutch foundation for children with cancer. I love to support this foundation.
